5-Month Update

I can hardly believe how quickly time is flying!  My sweet girl is growing so fast, learning new things every day.  As exciting as that is, sometimes I just want to grab time by the reins and beg it to slow down.  Here is what you're up to at 5 months:

You're still tall and skinny like always.  You weigh right at 14 pounds.  We haven't officially measured your height this month (how terrible we are!), but I know you're tall because most of your pants rapidly become "capris" (we refuse to call them "highwaters") not long after you grow into them.  We have offically cleaned out all of your 0-3 month clothes, and many of your 3 month clothes as well.  You can still fit into 3 month shirts/onesies, but your pants have to be either 3-6 months or 6 months to fit your legs.  You are wearing a size 1-2 diaper.  You're very close to moving into 2's, but we're not pushing you to get there!

You made a major move this month - sleeping in your own room!  I think it was harder for Mommy and Daddy to get used to it than it was for you.  You barely even noticed the change, and now you seem to love your room.  On a side note, I'm very glad for that because we (i.e. Daddy) put a LOT of hard work into fixing that room up just for you!

Another big milestone was introducing you to baby foods.  So far you've eaten bananas, sweet potatoes, apples, and carrots.  Luckily you've loved each one of them - you've never been a picky eater!  Your favorite has been the bananas.  We've had some setbacks because you've been a sick little girl this month and, when you're sick, you have no interest in food, but we'll be moving on to new items soon.

You are really becoming an active little girl.  You've got your head control down pat, and you certainly use it to get into everybody's business.  You still love to talk and smile quite a bit.  You are developing such personality, and I can only imagine what's going to come out when you finally make words out of your babbling.  Just a few days ago you let loose this hilarious new giggle.  Daddy and I were in hysterics over it because each time you'd do it, you seemed to laugh at yourself and this new sound, making the whole thing even funnier.  You love to laugh, and you've been trying it out on anyone who will listen.

I truly believe you're beginning to learn your name.  When we talk about you, you perk up and turn your head at the sound of your name, almost as if you're trying to hear what's being said about you.  It also makes you laugh - as just about anything does!  You're also starting to learn who people are.  Of course you recognize Daddy and me, but you're also beginning to recognize other people who are around you much of the time (mostly your family).  You love, love, love your cousins, Brayden and Bailey, who can make you laugh like no one else.  Aunt Shannon seems to have a spell on you, too - we take you to her if we just can't figure you out!  If someone you don't know tries to hold you, you will grab onto me (or whoever is holding you) until you realize it's okay.  Then you become Ms. Social Butterfly!

You like anything that makes noise/music, and you're very good at grabbing.  You now know how to take your binkie out of your mouth and put it back in, which is actually a pretty difficult skill.  You grab at anything and everything that you can reach, and usually that lucky object goes straight to your mouth.  One final milestone this month - you rolled over!  You've always hated to be on your stomach, so one night you did something about it.  We almost missed it you were so quick!  You've only done it one other time since, mostly because I think it scared you when it happened.  Maybe soon you'll realize that it's kinda fun and do it again.

We love you very  much, sweet Macyn, and we have enjoyed every moment of watching you grow and learn.  It is amazing to witness you changing right before our very eyes.  Each day makes me more grateful that God would entrust you to us.  Can't wait to see where this next month will take us!
